The IAC Vice President, Doug Bartlett, announced the results of the 2018 IAC Election at the IAC Annual Membership Meeting in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on July 27, 2018. 

The results were *certified by the IAC Ballot Certification Committee Chair, DJ Molny, and were as follows:

  • President -- Robert Armstrong: 294 votes (running unopposed)
  • Secretary -- Lynn Bowes: 300 votes (running unopposed)

On Monday, July 16th, the new Giles Henderson Trophy arrived at Oshkosh Trophy, our awards vendor, and IAC is delighted with the results. The trophy features a large piece of crystal with Giles' photo cut into it along with images of his Clipped Wing Cub and IAC logo.

The trophy will be presented to the 2018 U.S. Sportsman Aerobatic Champion during the closing ceremonies and awards banquet at the U.S. Nationals in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The banquet will be held in the Founder's Wing of the EAA Aviation Museum. Tickets will be available at the contest site.

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018 will include a full roster of forums at the IAC’s Vicki Cruse Educational Pavilion. The forums are scheduled daily from Tuesday, July 24, through Friday, July 29, 2018, and run for approximately one hour and 15 minutes each. Special guest Dan Rihn will give a forum on Wednesday morning titled “The One Design DR-107: The Origins and Legacy,” as part of the type’s 25th anniversary celebration at AirVenture. Philipp Steinbach will talk about building the Gamebird GB1 the same morning.

On May 3rd, the IAC Board of Directors agreed to the creation of a new Giles Henderson Trophy to be presented at the U.S. National Aerobatic Championships each year. The trophy will be awarded to the new U.S. Sportsman Aerobatic Champion. Giles lost his life in a skydiving accident in December 2017 and had most recently competed at the U.S. Nationals in Oshkosh last September.

The 2018 IAC Election balloting is now open. IAC members should go to the homepage's upper right hand corner where it says "Members: Please Vote" and review the election announcement and the profiles provided by the candidates in accordance with the IAC by-laws. After that review, click on the "cast your vote" link and vote. Balloting closes on Monday, July 23 at 6:00 p.m. CDT. Ballots must be received before closing to be counted.

On Thursday, May 3, 2018, the IAC Board of Directors met by teleconference to appoint Jim Bourke (IAC 434151) to the IAC Board as their Southwest Regional Director. He will complete the remainder of Tim Just’s term which runs through July of 2019. Tim submitted his resignation to the IAC Board of Directors on April 18, 2018.

In addition to his appointment as the Southwest Regional Director, Jim has accepted the appointment as the IAC Safety Program Chair and both appointments take effect immediately.

IAC has confirmed that all of the corrections to the Aresti Catalogue that have accumulated over the last few years have now been made and the 2018 versions of the catalogue (Power and Glider) are available at http://www.arestisystem.com/ for 17 Euros (approximately $21.00). The catalogue is printed and shipped from Spain.

Earlier in the year, IAC made available a corrections sheet, listing all of the changes made since 2013 by CIVA, so members could have the most current information. That document is available at…

On a special meeting telephone conference, Tuesday, April 10, 2018 the IAC board of directors appointed Doug Bartlett, IAC 431228, as the new IAC vice president (VP) to fill out the remainder of Robert Armstrong's term, which runs until July 2019. The VP vacancy was created when Robert was appointed to fill the IAC president position when Mike Heuer submitted his resignation at the IAC board of directors meeting on March 17, 2018 as previously planned.
