The 2017 IAC Judges Revalidation and Currency Exam is now available on the Programs->Judges->Exams web page.  Passing the R&C Exam is required for Judge currency for 2017.  The passing score is 80%.  The exam is open book and is best done with a copy of the IAC Official Contest Rules and the IAC web site at hand.  An IAC chapter might make exam prep the topic of a chapter meeting.

IAC members were contacted last year by Harris Connect, a company that publishes membership directories for all sorts of organizations in the USA including military associations, alumni groups, and non-profit organizations. IAC had previously worked with this company in the publication of directories in 1990, 1995, and 2000. Most recently, the Warbirds of America had also contracted with Harris Connect to publish an album. The original goal was to print and ship these books to members by August 2016.

IAC is associated with the National Aeronautic Association in Washington, DC through a letter of agreement which grants IAC full sanctioning authority and powers to manage and administer aerobatic competition in the United States. NAA, in turn, is America’s member organization in the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) in Lausanne, Switzerland, which regulates all international competitions and record attempts.

As I have previously reported, ADS-B Out cannot keep up with aerobatic operations and it shows up “red” in the FAA's performance information, through no fault of the airplane’s operator or the equipment. Eventually, we hope for some sort of long-term fix which will likely be in the publication of additional FAA policy, yet to be decided.

As a follow up to articles in Sport Aerobatics this summer and fall regarding ADS-B Out equipment, we had a good meeting at AirVenture in Oshkosh in July with three FAA people heavily involved in ADS-B at the Washington level, outlining our problems…

Lorrie Penner joins the EAA staff as the IAC Executive Director on January 2, 2017. IAC members - please welcome her when you get a chance.

Lorrie brings superb qualifications to the job and you will find her incredibly easy to work with, dedicated, and deeply devoted to EAA and IAC and our missions and objectives. She currently works as an account manager at Executive Jet Management in Cincinnati and before that, worked in the non-profit field as an executive assistant at the University of Cincinnati’s Economics Center.
