The 2014 Greg Koontz Airshows Aerobatic Instructor Scholarship in memory of Bobby Younkin was presented Friday evening of AirVenture at the IAC annual dinner. Greg Koontz himself was on hand to present the scholarship. This year’s recipient is Micah Reynolds of New Market, TN, who made the trip to receive the scholarship in person. 

Micah manages an auto body shop that he inherited with the passing of his father. He works hard to keep the family business intact and to support his wife and their two children, but has had ambitions all his life to be involved in aerobatics. Micah does…

The 2014 FAI World Advanced Aerobatic Championships is now underway in Dubnica nad Vahom, Slovakia which is located in western Slovakia.  IAC members and Team USA pilots are here after practicing in Most, Czech Republic for several days.  Competing are Marty Flournoy (MX-2), Mark Fullerton (MX-2), Craig Gifford (Panzl S-330), Matt Lane (Yak 55M), and Mark Nowosielski (MX-2).  The team arrived in Slovakia on Tuesday, August 5th and had a chance to get practice in the contest box during the next two days.  Team coach Nikolay Timofeev is also providing warm-up flights for the Judges in the…

The results of the 2014 IAC Election were announced at the IAC Annual Membership Meeting in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on Friday, August 1st.  281 votes were cast in the election, most by electronic ballots.  The results were as follows:

President:  Mike Heuer - 242 votes (elected)

Secretary:  Lynn Bowes - 256 votes (elected)

Directors:

Debby Rihn-Harvey - 184 votes (elected)

Rob Holland - 169 votes (elected)

Doug Lovell - 119 votes (elected)

Bruce Ballew - 93 votes

The FAA has published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) requiring that airport property property be used for "aeronatical activities". Many aspects of this proposal have the potential to impact us as hangar owners, tenants, and aircraft renters.

More than a week since the Doug Yost and Best Box contests. The CanAm Challenge in Cut Bank, Montana might have flown over this most recent weekend. We're on the lookout for results. Coming up in the next three weeks, four more: the Hoosier Hoedown in Kokomo, Indiana on the weekend of August 9; the Kathy Jaffe Challenge in Lumberton, NJ; the Upper Canada Open at Tillsonburg, Ontario, Canada; and the Beaver State Regional in Pendleton, OR on the weekend of August 15.

We're a little past the All-Star break, halfway through competition season, and the IAC Regional Series is starting to shape up. Every region except the NorthWest has contenders who have flown at least two contests. The SouthWest has pilots already qualified in Sportsman through Unlimited Power. The SouthEast has a valid contest in Advanced. There are many contests remaining to be flown, the warmest months have arrived. Expect to see more pilots reaching the three contest mark. (The NorthWest mark is two contests.)
