The Board of Directors met by teleconference in a Special Board Meeting on Friday, May 22, 2020, to discuss changing the date of the IAC Annual Meeting. In previous years the Annual Meeting was held during the last days of AirVenture; however, with the cancellation of AirVenture 2020, different arrangements were required.

It would be silly to predict the future, now more than ever.  However, I can offer a fact-based summary of where we currently are in regard to the 2020 US National Aerobatic Championships in Salina, KS scheduled for September 20-25. IAC Secretary Lynn Bowes and I met in person and Executive Director Steve Kurtzahn attended by phone with the Salina Airport Authority (SAA) personnel, a Salina Chamber of Commerce representative and tower operations on June 17, 2020.

DICK RIHN – A Tribute By Mike Heuer, IAC Historian

Dr. Richard Rihn, one of IAC’s Presidents Emeritus and a leader in our sport for decades, passed away on June 8th, 2020 at the age of 95. Dick served as our club’s president from 1996 to 1998 and on the board of directors for several years. He also served a chair of the IAC’s International Aerobatics Hall of Fame committee and thus helped write the rules and pioneer one of IAC’s most important programs. With deep sadness we share the news of the passing of Tom Adams, IAC #1999, of Brenham, Texas.

Tom learned to fly by training with his father and helped pay for college by dusting crops in a 450 Stearman. He served in the Marine Aviation Cadet program in Pensacola, flying A-4D Skyhawks, and eventually began a 32-year career with Northwest Airlines. Adams retired as a captain on the 747-400 after logging time in more than 100 different aircraft types.

His aerobatic career began with a self-built Pitts S-1C for use in regional IAC contests. He has earned multiple competition…
