There has been some confusion over the Unknowns that will be flown at Nationals by Advanced and Unlimited category pilots.  In the case of Advanced, competitors will fly one "Free Unknown".  Both Unlimited Unknowns that are on the schedule now will also be "Free Unknowns".  This is in accordance with IAC's Policy and Procedures manual (sections 503 and 504) and puts the Nationals in full compliance with IAC Board policy.

We've seen Ephrata Washington earlier this year, when we wrote about the Apple Cup. It's a contest location about as far north and west as you can get in the lower forty-eight. The Fall contest at Ephrata, the Apple Turnover, had reported awesome weather. Says Contest Director Peggy Reidinger, "Not a cloud to be found the entire weekend, and the temperature was perfect."

Some of the problems that have afflicted the US Nationals in years past are being eliminated this year as IAC invests more resources into the event to upgrade its quality.

Gray Brandt, Contest Director, has commissioned the construction of new boundary judge sighting devices and these are being completed in California.  They will offer sturdy and stable sighting capability for decades to come.

The Contest Jury for the US Nationals has been finalized.  The Jury will be chaired by veteran IAC member and pilot Bob Meyer of Tehachapi, California.  Bob has been an active judge and competitor for many years and brings experience, judgement, and diplomatic skills to the assignment.  The Jury at Nationals is very active throughout the contest, unlike at most regional competitions, as it is charged with oversight of the key operational areas of the contest as well as administering the Unknowns, which in Advanced and Unlimited categories are formulated on site.  Unlimited also flies a "…

The waiver for practice has just recently been received from the FSDO.  A 10-day temporary waiver that takes us up through the 19th of September has been granted.  The permanent APA that has been in place at the North Texas Regional Airport (KGYI) for some time was also renewed on September 11th.  It had expired at the end of August.  All is in place for pilots to practice on the contest site from this day…

Congratulations to the 2014 IAC Open West Champions Jake Carter, Beth Stanton, Cameron Jaxheimer, Sam Mason, and Tim Just. The 40th Annual Happiness is Delano in centennial late summer heat, in the Central Valley of Southern California north of Bakersfield, was a 44 competitor big contest, next to the last of the 2014 contests in California. Reports from the Rebel Regional at Union City, Tennessee are that it was one of the more fun and pleasurable contests in recent experience. Weather was favorable. Lots of great people showed up. There was a whole lot of flying. Food was delicious and abundant. Attitudes were upbeat, moods happy, dispositions positive. Great company was enjoyed by all.  Read all about the Rebel Regional.

The United States National Aerobatic Championships begins in less than three weeks and Contest Director Gray Brandt and Assistant Contest Director Casey Erickson will be putting the finishing touches to the event in the remaining days ahead. 

The contest will take place from 20-27 September 2014 at the North Texas Regional Airport (KGYI) in Sherman/Denison, Texas.  The event has been held at this airport almost continuously since 1972.  As always, National Champions will be named as well as a US Aerobatic Team in Unlimited category.  The Team will compete at the 28th FAI World…

The IAC Board of Directors met by teleconference on Thursday, August 28th, to make appointments to fill vacancies created on the Board by the latest election.

Former IAC President Doug McConnell was appointed Vice President, to serve out the remainder of President Mike Heuer's term. Doug brings enormous experience to the Board as it was under his administration IAC reached its peak in membership numbers.
