Each year, the membership of the IAC nominates outstanding volunteers to be recognized for their contribution to the sport of aerobatics. The award was conceived and donated by L. Paul Soucy of Louisville, Kentucky. Mr. Soucy was one of the first members of IAC and the Board of Directors. His purpose was to recognize not only skilled pilots but also those who supported a minimum number of contests as well as the U.S. National Aerobatic Championships.

Of interest to some of you is a 2017 change to Rule 2.1, Competitor Qualifications. The new rule recognizes the BasicMed medical certification being put into use by the FAA later this year.  Anyone qualifying under the BasicMed regulations will be able to compete without a current FAA Medical Certificate regardless of the airplane flown.  The 2017 rule book with this and many other changes will be online not later than mid-February.

The final scores are in for the 2016 regional series competition. Sixty-six (66) pilots successfully competed at three or more contests needed to qualify for the series and place in the top three in their category for their respective region.

At the March 2002 Board of Directors meeting, an IAC Regional Championship Series format was officially approved. To be eligible, a pilot must fly at least three contests during the year and one contest may include the U.S. Nationals. If more than three contests…

IAC members were contacted last year by Harris Connect, a company that publishes membership directories for all sorts of organizations in the USA including military associations, alumni groups, and non-profit organizations. IAC had previously worked with this company in the publication of directories in 1990, 1995, and 2000. Most recently, the Warbirds of America had also contracted with Harris Connect to publish an album. The original goal was to print and ship these books to members by August 2016.
