EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023 will include a full roster of forums in the IAC’s Vicki Cruse Educational Pavilion at the IAC Aerobatic Center. The forums are scheduled daily from Tuesday, July 25, through Friday, July 28, 2023, and run for approximately one hour and 15 minutes each.
A fantastic lineup of aerobatic and unusual attitude forums throughout the week are being planned. Everything from spins to the IAC Collegiate Program or exploring flying aerobatics in your homebuilt and recreational aerobatics will be covered. Hear from IAC Hall of Famers, competitors and Master CFIs, there is something for everyone who has an interest in everything aerobatic!

8:30 a.m. - 9:45am - Speaker: Budd Davisson : TOPIC: Aerobatic Capability: How much is enough?
Budd has over 44 years and more than 5,500 hours of dual training given - just in the pattern teaching people to master the Pitts on the ground and in the air. Budd concentrates training on overcoming the mystique of the Pitts and similar airplanes.

10 a.m. -11:15 a.m. - Speaker: Michael Lents : TOPIC: Tales from the Backseat: Learning and Instructing Aerobatics Description: Anecdotes and discussion about the mind-set, qualifications, and aircraft for becoming a safer pilot through aerobatic flight.
Bio: Michael Lents flew a Super Decathlon to win the 2021 Nationals in Intermediate. He was the top scoring US pilot on the 2018 US Advanced Aerobatic Team. Mike is the Coach of the University of North Dakota Aerobatic Team.

Dagmar is an International World Aerobatic Champion who has competed for the United States and also for Germany, where she is from. She is a certified flight instructor and professor at Metropolitan State University Denver (MSU). She has been involved in aviation for over 30 years. She is the 2018 Frank Price Cup recipient. |

1:00-2:15pm - Speaker: Tom Spratt TOPIC: RV Formation Flying
Tom Spratt is an EAA Lifetime 1149503, an Air Force F-16 pilot and decorated combat veteran, having won the Distinguished Flying Cross in the first Gulf War. After completing his RV-8 in 2014, he has flown every performance with the Rocky Mountain Renegades since then.
He will share what it takes to get started in flying formation in your RV.

8:30 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. - Speaker : Todd Ashcraft TOPIC: Eagle Bailout Todd recounts decisions made after discovering the Christen Eagle II he was flying had very low oil pressure 10 minutes after departure. Once the decision was made to return to the departure field more decisions had to be made when the engine started losing power, including if or when to bailout. The forum includes lessons learned and tips for anyone suddenly experiencing an in-flight emergency. Tood has been an IAC lifetime member since 1994. He is an aero engineer with a wide knowledge base and a lot of experience. And the owner/operator of Ashcraft Aero Works since 2010. The company offers plans, parts, kits, and designs for homebuilt aircraft. |

10:00 a.m. - 11:15a.m. - Speaker: Bill Finagin: TOPIC: Spins, Planned or Accidental. Bio: William B. (Bill) Finagin was the 2008 IAC Hall of Fame inductee. Bill is a MCFI-Aerobatic and does flight instruction for unusual attitude/upset training, aerobatics and Pitts checkouts. He was a competition pilot for many years through 2008 and continued on as an aerobatic judge until 2014. |

The IAC Collgiate program is intended to encourage interest in aerobatics through Collegiate Competition among college age students. Safety is always first and foremost in priority. It is the intent of this program to sharpen pilot skills in the categories where they can be the most rewarded in terms of pilot ability and collegiate recognition.

1:00 p.m. - 2:15p.m. Speaker : Nick Scholtes : TOPIC: Safely Exploring Aerobatics in Your Homebuilt Bio - Nick has piloted a wide variety of aircraft over more than 30 years and has always been particularly interested in tailwheel airplanes and aerobatics. At the Blue Sky Aero Flight School in Morris, Illinois (C09) he teaches in RVs and Pitts and is Factory Certified by Vans Aircraft. Nick has flown more than 70 different types, 40 of those being tailwheel. He has offered instruction and check-outs in Pitts, Stearman, KitFox, and RVs for many years. |

Gordon Penner, IAC member and Master CFI-Aerobatic, will discuss how to do safe, gentle aerobatics whether your aircraft has an inverted fuel/oil system or not. An IAC member since 1999, Gordon has competed in the Sportsman category in a Decathlon and a Pitts Special S-1C. He enjoys recreational aerobatics and formation flying in his RV7. Brittanee is a fourth-generation pilot; the first female pilot in her family. "Aviation was always a part of my life," said Brittanee. She serves the Recreational Aviation Foundation (RAF) as the Social Media Coordinator and is a speaker/instructor for the AOPA Air Safety Institute seminars. Brittanee is a member of the U.S. Advanced Aerobatic Team headed to the 2023 World Advanced Aerobatic Championships in the fall.

8:30 - 9:30 a.m. - IAC Annual Membership Meeting
The annual membership meeting is led by one of the IAC board of directors and includes a report on the strength of the organization, membership numbers, communications and benefits, U.S. Aerobatics team participation in World events, as well as plans for EAA AirVenture and the U.S. National Aerobatic Championships. The highlight of the meeting is the installation of new board members from the most recent election. There is a Q&A at the end of the meeting.
