In the Loop - Contest highlights MAC80 aerobatic championships

It was a great turn out at the MAC80 contest the second weekend in June with 23 pilots flying Primary to Advanced categories. Congratulations to all the pilots for a safe and fun contest!


Thank you to all the volunteers and special thanks to Dale Byrkit, the contest director. He was presented with the 2024 Harry Barr Hustle Award. “The guy never stopped moving!” said MAC80 chapter president Ed Bowes.

Sara Arnold, Chapter 78 and IAC Secretary, wins the American Champion Award for highest percentage points in a Decathlon with a score of 82.48% finishing in second place in the Sportsman category.. Presented by Lynn Bowes.

Highest Scoring First-time Competitor from the University of North Dakota is Tyler Sperry with a score of 79.09%.


University of North Dakota student Kathleen Thompson takes home the first-place trophy in Primary with 79.16%.

Chris Lidel takes away the 1st Place Trophy in the Sportsman Category this year with a score of 80.03%.

Phillip Gragg wins the Intermediate Category with 81.81% over second place winner Doug Jenkins with a 81.26%! 

With 72.22% in Advanced, Craig Fitzgerald takes home first-place.
