IAC Board Actions, Fall 2013

The IAC board met in Oshkosh on November 13 and 14 for its annual fall meeting.  Here's a summary of board actions that are most significant to members.  For a complete list of board actions, rejected proposals and additional details, refer to the agenda packet and draft meeting minutes on the IAC website.

14-3, improving the language concerning late arrivals
14-4, raising protest fees to $50
14-6, distinguishing soft zeroes from hard zeroes
14-10, defining penalties when a Free Program has missing or incorrect “Total K” or “Presentation K” values
14-14, eliminating the “zero the flight” penalty for gliders thermaling at certain points during a competition flight
14-15, requiring dual seat belts for the Intermediate Power category
14-18, removing rule confusion about dropping figures from a flight program
14-20, clarifying the maximum wind speed rule

Accepted with modified language:

14-7, bridging the gap between the end of one calendar year and judge certification in the following year
14-17, changing the requirements for earning a Smooth Patch award for IAC members living outside of the United States

Rejected:

14-1, increasing presentation K values when all box boundaries cannot be guarded
14-2, allowing smaller contests to automatically waive the requirement to guard boundaries
14-5, providing for multiple boundary penalties on repeated figures
14-8, limiting the number of figures in a Sportsman Free program
14-9, changing the number of figures allowed in an Intermediate Power Free Program
14-11, allowing a contest jury to suspend a contest due to perceived health hazards
14-12, requiring that an IAC Safety representative was present on each contest jury
14-13, adding a restriction to certain Intermediate Power Unknown figures
14-16, changing the “K” limits for Intermediate Power Unknown sequences
14-19, changing the lower altitudes for Sportsman and Intermediate

Rules proposal deadline:

Changed from July 1 to September 1.  Further, any rules proposals submitted as a result of the U.S. Nationals will be accepted within one week of the completion of that contest.

Known Sequences:

Primary through Intermediate (power and glider):

All sequences proposed by the Known Review Subcommittee were approved.

Advanced and Intermediate (power and glider):

All CIVA sequences were adopted.

Support for U.S. Teams:

IAC will establish a permanent endowment fund in support of U.S. aerobatic teams.

Future elections and proxy solicitations will use electronic balloting (via the web) rather than paper balloting.

Publications:

Future editions of the IAC rulebook will be viewable across a greater set of devices and PDF reader software than were usable in past years.

By-laws correction:

A revision to IAC's by-laws will submitted to the membership for approval in 2014 to correct transcription errors in the March, 2013 version.
