San Diego Pilots celebrate International Aerobatics Day

International Aerobatics Day Celebration June 24th by Local San Diego Pilots at Gillespie Field!

Aerobatics is the conduct of precise flight maneuvers that safely display the abilities of both pilot and machine to fly in attitudes that clearly depart from the traditional views of straight and level flight. Aerobatic pilots train to be able to execute loops, rolls, hammerheads, spins and many other maneuvers to exquisite precision starting and stopping the motion within degrees of heading and determined altitudes. All critically scored in competition by credentialed judges that subtract points for every imperfection during the display (a bit like judging Olympic figure skating).

On June 24th, local aerobatic instructors will be offering short introduction to aerobatics flights to fellow Southern California pilots. Family and Friends are invited to accompany pilots and enjoy the Gillespie Cafe while flights are in progress. Some non-pilots might be able to also grab 20 minutes of “aerial roller coaster” experience provided by San Diego SkyTours on-site pilot (limited number of flights available).

The event is planned to take place at Gillespie Field (KSEE), starting around 9am through 7pm. (Gillespie Field Cafe area for meet-up and briefings) The event is of course weather dependent and might be cancelled in case of uncooperative cloud coverage.

The president of the international aerobatic club local chapter (IAC36 San Diego Hammerheads) will be available before or during the event to answer media questions about the planes and precision flying in general. If interested some flights for local media representatives could be arranged that day. Aerial footage included!
