Lycoming 180hp Trophy

    Origin
Several IAC members in an effort to further the "grassroots" movement within the IAC promoted the concept of a permanent trophy to be awarded to pilots flying aircraft of 180 horsepower or less. The Textron Lycoming Company came forward to donate and provide ongoing sponsorship of this trophy in May of 1999.

    Criteria
Until the discontinuation of the IAC Championships in 2001, the trophy along with a cash prize of $1,000.00 was presented to the highest scoring pilot in any category flying an aircraft of 180 or less horsepower at the IAC Championships.  The trophy is now awarded at the U.S. National Aerobatic Championships.

    Procedures
The name of the recipient is given to the Contest Director by the Scoring Director after the contest is completed. The recipient's plaque is ordered by the Executive Director. No name is inscribed on the recipient plaque. Textron Lycoming is to be contacted in advance of the contest date in order for the $1,000.00 check to be created for the cash prize.

    Presentation
Recipient trophies have been funded by Textron Lycoming and consist of a laser cut plaque with a photograph of the permanent trophy set in the plaque. The master trophy remains on display at the EAA Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The recipient plaque is presented at the U.S. Nationals annual awards banquet.
