Recreational Aerobatics Program
The Recreational Aerobatics Program focuses on grass roots recreational aerobatics and is provided for those pilots who wish to gain, through education and experience, the benefits of improved flight skills and knowledge that comes from aerobatics without the expectation for competition.
Many general aviation pilots have never operated outside of a very restricted bank/pitch/G envelope due to a lack of training opportunities. The goal of the Recreational Program is to share the wealth of knowledge learned by competition aerobatic pilots and aerobatic flight instructors with other pilots willing to learn how to control their aircraft through a much larger flight envelope. The aerobatic rally is a well-organized and controlled educational program to accomplish this goal.
An aerobatic rally is education, fellowship fun, and flying - all in a one-day event
Classroom Activities
An aerobatic rally begins with classroom activities led by a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) who is skilled in flying and teaching aerobatics. Our goal is to pass on the unique set of flying skills we have learned in flying aerobatics to general aviation and recreational aerobatic enthusiasts. Topics are set by the CFI and can include emergency maneuver training, spin recovery techniques, unusual attitude awareness that leads to loss of control, performance capabilities of individual aircraft types and more.
Aerial Demonstrations
Aerial demonstrations of the procedures outlined during the seminar will follow. Attendees can observe from the ground giving a real world vision of the principles taught during the classroom session.
Aerobatic Flight
The aerobatic rally concludes with flying by rally participants at their own pace, with no pressure and no expectations other than to have fun and enjoy aerobatics in a safe and controlled environment. For the first-time aerobatic pilot, flight lessons by the Certified Flight Instructor should be made available for an additional fee. Pilots who have previously flown aerobatics may fly alone. A pilot will have an area in which to fly and practice loops, spins, rolls and other maneuvers that the pilot has self-certified they are capable of flying. All rally flights are flown above 2,000’ AGL, so no aerobatic box is required to enjoy the benefits of hosting a rally.
Hosting a Rally
IAC Headquarters will assist flight schools and IAC Chapters in teaming up to host a rally. If your Chapter and/or flight school is interested, contact us for assistance. Headquarters will provide marketing materials and administrative support in setting up the rally including mailings, on-line registration, and rally insurance application requirements. Call for more information on how you can host a rally.
