Instructional Aerobatics

IAC's Pilot Safety Programs provide invaluable benefits to members in the areas of aerobatic instruction, aerobatic mishap review and technical safety. The Aerobatic Instruction Committee and Technical Safety Committee publish several "how-to" and technical safety articles in IAC's monthly magazine Sport Aerobatics. A compilation of these articles are also available in the four volume set of IAC Technical Tips manuals. Members of the committee are available to answer your questions and offer guidance on several aerobatic technical issues.

The IAC Aerobatic Mishap Review Committee works in partnership with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to investigate aerobatic accidents and forwards any lessons that could be learned from these unfortunate mishaps onto IAC members.

In addition, through a partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the National Association of Flight Instructors
(NAFI) and EAA, IAC has produced the first in a series of videos designed to extend the IAC's knowledge of testing the limits of aircraft to the general aviation audience. The first training video "Loss of Aircraft Control: Avoiding Spins" is available now. The second training video will be available by August, 2002.

Also, beginning January 1, 2001, in cooperation with the NAFI, the IAC has created a program to recognize the nation's best instructors in aerobatic flight training. The
Master CFI-Aerobatics designation will be awarded to aerobatic flight instructors who meet established criteria that enhance safety and promote training in aerobatics. The two-year Master Instructor status is earned and renewed through a rigorous process of continuing education, professional development and involvement in the aviation community. The program allows flight instructors to enhance their abilities as both pilots and educators.

The IAC also maintains a list of
Aerobatic Schools. This list contains the names, addresses and contact information for many schools and individuals who offer aerobatic instruction. The IAC does not endorse any of the schools listed or the qualifications, experience or expertise of any of the instructors.

The IAC also keeps a library of several instructional books and videos that are available for purchase by IAC members.

As a division of the EAA, IAC members also have access to EAA Technical Counselors and Flight Advisors who have extensive experience building and/or restoring aircraft. 95% of all EAA Technical Counselors have restored or built an aircraft or hold an FAA mechanics certificate. All EAA Flight Advisors are available to help members evaluate their abilities to fly a given aircraft and help members find the right instructor to plan their first flight and determine the types of additional training that is needed.
