Government Representation
When you belong to the International Aerobatic Club, you have government representatives working for you with many federal agencies, including the FAA, to help shape future policies.
Do you plan on practicing some aerobatic maneuvers and your planned practice area is within four miles from the center of an airway and/or you intend to practice below 1,500 feet? You can’t just hop in the cockpit at your local airport and begin doing barrel rolls and hammerheads. You first need to apply through a local Flight Service District Office (FSDO) for an FAA Form 7711-1, Certificate of Waiver or Authorization to establish an aerobatic practice area. Requirements for obtaining a practice area waiver are established in Chapter 48 of the FAA’s General Aviation Operations Inspector’s (GAOI) Handbook. Waivers to establish an aerobatic contest box are also obtained through Chapter 48.
Regional IAC Government Relations Representatives are available to assist members in applying for and addressing any concerns regarding the establishment or renewal of an aerobatic practice or contest box. For the contact information of these representatives, please log into the IAC members only site at http://members.iac.org/ .
In addition, as a division of EAA, IAC members have staff representation in Washington, D.C., and access to the EAA Government Relations Department who monitor the Federal Register daily and respond to changes that impact our members. Also, the EAA staff participates as members of the General Aviation Action Plan Coalition and the Air Rulemaking Advisory Committee as well as work with many other aviation organizations that may affect the future of aerobatic flight.
